The diversity of international trade and shipping sub-sector activities forming the infrastructure of world trade and transport includes many hundreds of large, medium and small private firms all of them relying in varying degrees upon versatile skilled professionals.  Public sector agencies with regulatory responsibilities together with NGO's and other public interest organisations all need to be able to draw upon the same pool of well-educated persons. 

Graduates in maritime studies and international trade have a variety of career options, including import and export business, ship management, underwriting, logistics, freight forwarding, port agency and management, trade and ship finance, marine regulation as well as a variety of other administrative posts in the private and public sectors.

A Research conducted during the summer of 2013 shows that 98% of Frederick University BSc in Marine Studies graduates are today fully employed, most of them within the shipping industry. These graduates have a wide knowledge of all relevant dimensions of the vibrant world of international shipping, and enter the labour market with a strong background in the following core curriculum: Shipping Management, Logistics, Shipping Law, Marine Insurance, Chartering, Marine Economics, Shipping Accounting, Shipping Finance, Port Agency, Crew Management, Quality and Safety in Shipping, Maritime Policy, International Transportation, Liner Trades, Port and Terminal Operations.


The new MSc in International Trade and Shipping Management programme at Frederick University has been carefully considered and designed to produce imaginative and skilful managers able to work at high executive levels.  All will be able to deploy a plurality of skills while also prepared sufficiently to develop mastery of a specialised area.

The course delivers a comprehensive integrated overview of the core subjects essential to a thorough understanding of international trade and transport. Specifically, the course aims to develop the generic business skills required by managers working in the area of international trade and maritime business; develop critical analytical skills and apply them to the challenges they continually meet. 


Course Contents:


The first semester modules include:

International Trade and Shipping Management
International Maritime Law and Carriage of Goods
Logistics and Supply Chain Management
Global Transportation Systems

The second semester consists of modules in:

Ship Management
Research Methods
and two modules from the following:
Commodity Trade
Banking and Finance
Economics of International Trade
Total Quality Management

The third semester consists of a 12,000 – 15,000 word dissertation. 


The program will commence in February 2014.
